Lately, I have been spending a lot of time in my own head, pondering my life and focusing on my own needs. It has felt good. For a few years now the majority of my thoughts have been around my child and I have neglected myself. I don’t regret this, I can see how pouring everything I have into my daughter has helped to nurture a kind and compassionate kid. I am ready however to spend a bit of time on me.
When we give so much of ourselves to someone else it is easy to lose a sense of who we are. To stop and remember to feel present in our own thoughts. But dig deep, you are still there! Find little things every day that are about you, that bring you joy, that ground you and make you feel like the person you were before you became a parent.
My favourite things to do... (when time allows!)
- Dance to my favourite jams
- Spend quality time in the kitchen
- Drink coffee
- Watch a frivolous TV series
- Drink red wine
- Sit in the sun and close my eyes
- Eat chocolate
- Drive or walk along the waterfront
- Lie on the grass and daydream
Sometimes it can be difficult to look past the title of Mum or Dad and be ourselves, so what do you do to keep in touch with who you are at your core?
